Manuel Graça successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis on “Improving Efficiency in the Learning Process of Neural Networks” on 12 December 2025 at Instituto Superior Técnico, under the supervision of Prof. Luís Miguel Silveira and Prof. Arlindo Oliveira.
His research explores algorithmic strategies to improve the efficiency of neural network training by reducing the portion of the model updated over time and by introducing a new optimization method that increases learning progress per data sample while maintaining first-order practicality.
INESC INOV-Lab congratulates Manuel for this achievement and wishes him a promising future in machine learning and efficient AI research.
