João Filipe Santos Lopes successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis on “Embedded System for Onboard Object Detection in Hyperspectral Images” on 21 November 2025, under the supervision of Prof. Mário Véstias and Prof. Horácio Neto (INESC INOV-Lab / IST), at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon.
His research presents the design and implementation of a hardware/software embedded system for real-time onboard object detection in hyperspectral imagery, leveraging Transformer-based models and FPGA acceleration to significantly reduce computation, latency and energy requirements while maintaining high accuracy.
INESC INOV-Lab congratulates João Filipe for this achievement and wishes him a promising future in embedded artificial intelligence and remote sensing research.
