At a time of rapid technological change, global challenges and evolving models of collaboration, cooperation between universities, technology centres, industry and the public sector is becoming increasingly important for generating knowledge with real-world impact. This was the central theme of Jornadas Científicas Ulisboa (“Scientific Journeys”) 2026, dedicated to exploring “Scientific Cooperation in a Changing World”.
INESC INOV-Lab participated in the event with two contributions that highlight the role of interdisciplinary and interinstitutional collaboration in addressing societal and technological challenges.
As part of the session “Research and Innovation by Doctoral Students: Science in Collaboration”, researcher Filipe Apolinário presented his work on the detection and investigation of attacks targeting industrial control systems, a critical area for the protection and resilience of essential infrastructure.
ULisboa Scientific Days 2026 also featured a scientific poster on the PostureCare project, developed within INESC INOV-Lab, INOV‘s research and development unit. The work, authored by Ana Maria Madureira, Ivo Pereira, Nélson Azevedo and Nuno Bettencourt, was selected for inclusion in the event’s poster session.
PostureCare aims to address the growing prevalence of poor postural habits among young people through a solution that combines a smart wearable, active fibres, Artificial Intelligence algorithms and a mobile application. The system monitors user activity, identifies harmful postural changes and promotes immediate correction through a continuous biofeedback process.
By incorporating gamification elements, including a video game designed to encourage user engagement, the solution seeks to foster healthier postural habits and contribute to the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders in younger populations.
